Advised by the telecom regulator, Reliance Jio on Thursday said it will withdraw the three months complimentary benefits of Jio Summer Surprise, “as soon as operationally feasible, over the next few days”.
The move by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), which came after a meeting with Jio officials earlier on Thursday, will give relief to rivals such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. They have been struggling under the onslaught of Jio's two successive free offers, and the development should help restore pricing rationality over the next few months, experts said.

Here are five things you need to know about Reliance Jio and its offer:
    1) What is the offer?
    2) Those who have offer already won’t be hit
    3) 72 million signed up for Jio Prime in one month
    4) Where it all began
    5) Trai says new quality norms for cellular services soon

A TRAI official said that Reliance Jio did not even submit the Summer Surprise tariff plan. As per the rules, a telecom operator is required to submit its tariff plans with telecom regulator one week before its launch.

The practice enables TRAI to subject the proposed tariff plans to the regulatory framework and then proceed accordingly. TRAI gives nod to tariff plans after vetting the proposals thoroughly.

Reliance Jio late on Thursday had said that it was stopping Summer Surprise as TRAI has advised it to do so. However, Jio did not specify as to exactly when it will stop three months free offer.

When is Jio ‘Summer Surprise’ offer last date?
With the new order issued by TRAI, Jio 'Summer Surprise' now stands cancelled. Reliance Jio has agreed to roll it back, but has not announced a concrete Jio ‘Summer Surprise’ offer last date yet. In a statement, the telecom operator said the promotional scheme will be withdrawn “as soon as operationally feasible.”

Can I still get Jio ‘Summer Surprise’ offer benefits?
Yes. Jio 'Summer Surprise' offer is available via the Jio official website and MyJio app. If you are not a Prime member yet, then you need to enrol for the subscription plan. When you open the page for Jio Prime subscriptions, you will not find at present the option to do the Rs. 99 recharge, as was the case earlier. Instead, you will be presented with a list of plans you can buy to avail Jio 'Summer Surprise' benefits. Just tick the box next to the plan you want, and hit the Buy button. The next page will show you that the Rs. 99 Jio Prime subscription fee has already been added to your checkout cart. Simply proceed to make the payment and enjoy 3 months of free services.
